Independence Park – Merchants’ Exchange Building
The marble capitals on the east and west columns of the building were significantly deteriorated over time due to weather conditions. The facade was completely restored which required a complex installation of a scaffolding system around building and cupola on roof. Cleaning of historic stone and marble. The project consisted of cleaning historic stone and marble of that covers the historic walls and elements. The repairs included of the marble antefixes, upper cornices, dentils, blue marble pilaster capitals, carrara marble capitals, fluted column, pilaster shafts, and selected areas of flat walls exhibiting severe deterioration. Improved roof drainage including recoating of existing built-in gutters with a liquid membrane and installation of new metal cornice flashing at upper cornices around the entire perimeter. This project was completed in a 12-month time frame on to schedule.
